ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Photographs Submitted
The pictures you submit are extremely important. It will be my “model” and the only image I work from. These images should say something to you about your child. The expression, his/her eyes, and the pose are significant in making a beautiful portrait. If doing multiple children as individual portraits, it is best to submit photographs taken in the same lighting and done by a “professional” photographer if possible. You can submit 2-3 photos per child. We will then have a discussion to make sure I understand what you are looking for during our initial consultation. Based on that conversation, and the best lighting/shadows in the pictures, I will pick the best photo and slightly incorporate other aspects from other photos if needed to get the best result. I can change a shirt color; but will copy the selected photos as they are with a soft background. Please feel free to ask any further questions regarding your photo choices.
Photos need to be emailed in a high resolution format OR 8×10 photographs mailed to me directly. No pets.
What supplies does Laura use?
Laura uses professional quality pastels and Ampersand Pastelboard, a museum grade pastel board. Pastels produce a radiant, delicate portrait that will last a lifetime.
How long will it take?
Expect a pastel portrait to take 6-8 weeks from initial planning stages to completion. Depending on my work load there could be a wait time until the initial consultation takes place. I prefer to have the first consultation as close as possible to when I begin on your portrait. Your start and expected end dates will be communicated to you.
Will I be able to make adjustments to the portrait?
There will be a time for 2 conversations where you (as the client) can make minor adjustments to the portrait before it is finalized. I will send you a digital photograph for you to view before these 2 conversations. I want you to be incredibly happy with the final product and will do what I can to make it right.
How should I frame my portrait?
The portraits are done with soft pastels and must be matted when framed to keep the portrait off of the glass and from being altered. Finding a great framer is really important; one who will not spray a fixative on the portrait. If a fixative is sprayed it will slightly darken the colors in the portrait.
When do I pay for my portrait?
Invoices will be sent for 50% of the agreed upon price before I begin the portrait process and once again after the portrait is completed. Taxes and shipping costs (if needed) are additional and will be included in agreed upon price. If you prefer to pay one lump sum, you can do so before the portrait process begins.
